Someone you care about says, "I'm going there."
 
The next thing you know, you are halfway around the world in a place you never thought you'd be and had doubts about the value of going.  You were resistant but happily discovered it was well worth the effort.  These people, the ones you might easily have never gotten to know, turn out to be nothing less than another exquisite flower in the diverse garden of human life on this planet.
 
That's how I went to Bali to make photographs in 1990.
